96 year old woman sexual assault charges dropped

POLICE in the United Kingdom have dropped charges against a Zimbabwean man accused of a brutal sex attack on a 96-year-old woman.

Timothy Utedzi, 34, was arrested in July over a June 30 incident at a care home in Wendover, Aylesbury.

He appeared in court twice before sexual assault charges were withdrawn.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police told New Zimbabwe.com on Wednesday: "I can confirm that the court case against Mr Utedzi has been dropped. This was due to the alleged victim in the case, who is 96-years-old, being unable to give evidence in court due to health reasons."

Utedzi, previously of Greenend Avenue, Johnstone, Renfrewshire, before he left to live in Norwich, said he was "trying to rebuild my life".

He added: "I just want to get on with life now, there is no point dwelling over this incident."

Utedzi, who was working as a care worker at the time, declined to discuss how he came to be accused of the horrible crime.
